November 2014 Newsletter

We had a very successful, fun hook-in on October 26.  Many thanks to everyone in the guild who helped by supplying goodies, making proddy pins, donating door prizes, doing security duty, andsetting up and cleaning up.  A special thank you goes to Lynda Hadlock and Joan Wood for arranging the venue and organizing all the details.  The church ladies provided another delicious luncheon and the vendors offered many choices of beautiful wools and supplies.  We had a fabulous turnout of about 60 hookers from all over the region AND some new members joined the guild!  The committee will start plans for next year’s hook-in soon, so stay tuned to hearmore about that in the coming months.  Visit the White Mountain Woolen Magic Facebook page to see pictures of the hook-in.

Congratulations to our Peg Irish, one of the featured artists at the Hooked in the Mountains Rug and Fiber Arts Exhibition in Essex Jct., VT.  From all accounts the exhibit was exceptional. Also,congratulations to our Grace Collette who was one of the viewer’s choice award winners for her “Child of the Universe” rug.  Go tohttp://www.gmrhg.org/ to view the juror’s choice and viewer’s choice award winners.

Our next meeting is quickly approaching:  This coming Saturday, November 1. The meeting will be held at the Maxfield Public Library, 8 Route 129, in Loudon, NH.  Please bring your lunch and a snack to share.

Our guest will be Pam Rowan.  Pam is an accomplished braider who worked with us in the spring on attaching a braided edge to a hooked rug.  She will work with those who still need help finishing their spring project.  She will also show us how to make a braided turtle.  Pam brought many of her pieces with her in the spring, including the turtle (and the LL Bean boot!), and she will bring some of her new braided items that she made this summer.

Pam will have supplies on hand for purchase or you may bring your own wool.  She will bring the directions for the turtle, wool for the turtle, and wool for the turtle background (black).

We need to bring scissors, safety pins, needles and sewing thread.

The December 6 meeting will be a Yankee swap and potluck at the library.  More information will follow.  For now, mark your calendar.
